SAN MAI, GO MAI AND CU MAI AVAILABLE

Since our inception, a favourite handle material to use has been antlers. Deer, Caribou, moose, and elk all have been a part of many blades made over the years. The aesthetic and utility of this material give our knives a unique look and feel that harkens back to time our ancestors would use what was available to them in everyday life.

A traditional Japanese knife Making process, SAN MAI involves combining layers of different grades of steel and metal together through a process of forge welding.

The name is also very descriptive of the process. In Japanese ,  “MAI” is a unit count for flat objects, while “SAN” is Japanese for Three. So SAN MAI roughly translates to “three flat objects“, two outer layers of the same steel and a core of a different steel, each of different grades to allow the contrasting effect SAN MAI blades are known for.

GEVIR Blacksmithing

Starting in 2022, GEVIR knives has expanded its skill set by beginning to make other products in a more traditional blacksmith vein. An ongoing procedure, we’ve started simple with copper spoons, fire pokers, hangers and hooks, using new steel and antique material, and all of which are available for purchase.

It’s a very new process and the goal is to eventually offer a wide array of blacksmith products, such as ornate displays and tools.please continue to check back at what we come up with over time
